The Children's Perspective
Groups of children from across the school have been working with Miss Gallop to think about what Cashmere Avenue School's vision should be. To make this a child friendly task the children thought about what a 'Cashmere Learner' should look like when they leave Cashmere Avenue School. What behaviours, attitudes and skills will they need to be successful at their next school? This is what they came up with (click on the image to enlarge):

I like the school because there are lot of lovely teachers and they make learning fun. What I don't like about the school is that there are some bullies.

I like school because there are cool playgrounds. School is also teaching me to be more independent.

In the school vision, being fit and healthy and knowing how to stay healthy is very important.

I like the school because people are positive, friendly and nice. I am new at the school and I really like it. I think people should be asked not to call other people names as this isn't very nice.

I think school is a great place to learn. More sports like tennis, a soccer or handball team would be good because it teaches more team work and is fun.

I like my school because I learn lots and I've liked all my teachers especially Miss Taylor and Mr Elliott. I don't like the bullies in the school, I've been bullied lots of times in the upper court.

Vision for our school...School needs to provide a challenging program for all students. We need positive and constructive feedback to keep us interested in continuing our learning. We should be happy at our successes at Cashmere Ave eg. able to read and write and add numbers together.

I like the school because there are lots of great things to learn and the teachers are all fun, funny and awesome! I don't like that there are some kids that don't let people play in games and some middles have to go all the way down the bottom to play what they want to play, then get told off for getting back to class late.

I like the school because I have been there since I was 5 and I feel safe, happy, have learnt lots and almost feel ready to go to intermediate :-)

One thing I don't like is not knowing who to talk to about friendship problems.

I like school because you learn interesting things. But what I'd like to learn more of is world history. I like that we make use of rooms that we don't need anymore for classrooms. I like having playgrounds and I like that we have rules, and my favourite thing is looking for borers in the borer tree with my friends.
I wish we could swim in the school pool and not have to go all the way to Karori. I am proud of being at Cashmere Ave School.

i think that bully´s are mean and tough. a bully is someone who laugh´s at you a mean way. It hurt´s your feeling´s when people say that to you, and also you start feeling sad because they said that to you. So you just feel like walking around the block yourself because it just make´s you really unhappy after the person has said it to you. It just make´s you feel bad inside your body but you know to just find a duty teacher around there.
